Ahead of Supreme Court’s hearing on Article 35A, the Indian National Congress has cleared its stand by opposing the move of NDA government to scrap the controversial article.
Siding with Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and People’s Conference, the Congress has cautioned the Centre to desist from any “misadventure” to change the status quo. Congress’s decision came after separatist leaders called for a complete shutdown in the Kashmir Valley in support of 35A.
Even after the Pulwama terror attack which shocked entire nation, the Congress decided to continue playing vote bank politics rather than supporting the government in its fight against terrorism. GA Mir, chief of J&K PCC, said, “any misadventure with regard to Article 35A would further deepen the alienation among the people, the fire of which will engulf the entire J&K state”.
